Production process

For Single Camera Technique we have to create a short film, from 5-10 minutes. The pre production went well. I was the producer so I organised the paperwork. I had to email Witney Police and Blenheim Palace to ask for permission to film at these places, but didn’t receive a reply. I called Blenheim palace but there was no answer so from our contingency plans we had decided to use a local field to film the scene that we needed to do at Blenheim Palace. I went into Witney police station and whilst talking to the receptionist I was advised to change the scene to, the sister calling up the police, rather than going inside the police station. There were problems, getting people to be in out short film as everyone on our course were busy producing their own one, or helping out others. I asked 4 people, to be on the safe side, from outside college and they all agreed to help out but close to the first shooting date they all let us down, so we had to comprimise with a person who was in another groups production which was quite hard because we had a limited amount of time.

Editing took longer than expected. It was tricky to get all the timing correct with the speech, as well as the reactions to each other whilst doing the four point, to double up a character on screen. This took long because none of our group had done this before so we kept on making mistakes and having to start over again. When it came to edit a scene we shot, it was hard because we only had one angle so we couldn’t cut to a close up, to hide any imperfections with the master shot.  

For one scene we shot, it was extremely windy so the mic was picking up the wind more than the dialogue so we had to reshoot the audio in the radio studio. This added more time onto editing because we had to matchup the audio and the lip syncing, lower the volume of the wind, and make all the dialogue the same volume. We ran out of time to be able to everything that we wanted to do but we hope that we can continue this and re-submit it. We wanted to add a soundtrack to it, a better title, as this one was rushed, end credits, fix sound levels and finish animating the four point, as there are times where Agne’s body collides with the double and makes the four point edit obvious.
